Assistive technology: use of instructional therapeutic toys to prepare children submitted to peripheral venipuncture

Abstract

Objective: to propose a standard operational protocol with the use of the therapeutic toy for the preparation of the child who will be submitted to peripheral venous puncture. Method: applied research divided into two stages: literature review and protocol proposal. Held between August 2020 and January 2022. The integrative literature review and the protocol proposal were carried out. Results: the literature review presented the perspective of the nursing team, children and their parents, and identified articles that demonstrated the benefits of the application of therapeutic toys. In the proposal of the protocol, information on action was organized with the listing of materials and the description of the steps for application before, during and after the procedure to be followed by the nursing team. Conclusion: The therapeutic toy used to support peripheral venous puncture in children may be a care tool that enhances and systematizes the care provided by the nursing team.
