The role of healthcare professionals in a Brazilian public hospital during the Covid-19 pandemic

Abstract

Introduction: the World Health Organization declared coronavirus infection as a global emergency. Objective: to analyze aspects of a group of health professionals that worked directly in COVID-19 confronting in a public hospital. Method: cross-sectional survey study, with a total of 142 participants. The data was collected by instrument applied electronically. Descriptive analysis was performed through Excel and SPSS. Results: the professional profile was predominantly female (78.2%; 111), over 30 years old (125; 88.1%), mostly technicians/assistants in the nursing care (74%); (59.9%), and confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 (53.5%) that were absent from work for 14 days for recovery. Relevant considerations to the nursing field: the research confirms pandemic related effects for the nursing team and the need to protect it in times of greater public health demands. Conclusion: these professionals had to deal with adverse working conditions in the full range of their professional productivity, especially through increased working hours and limited Personal Protective Equipment.
