Abstract

Objective: Violence against 178 pregnant women in the Federal District. Methods: The Abuse Assessment Screen was applied and the Chi-Square, Fisher's Exact, T-Test and Mann-Whitney tests were used. Results: The prevalence of violence during pregnancy was 20.6%. The intimate partner was the aggressor in 75% of the cases. Violence was associated with race, cohabitation, having an intimate partner, having children, number of pregnancies, drug abuse, history of violence, fear of the partner and health problems. Conclusions: The screening of violence should be included in prenatal care to identify cases and give visibility to this phenomenon, which compromises the pregnant women and babies’ health.
