Abstract

Introduction: Perforation of the excluded stomach after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass is a rare condition. Development: in order to better understand this clinical condition, a literature review was carried out from MEDLINE and LILACS databases with a survey of 6 publications after application of inclusion and exclusion criteria. A simple comparison was performed between epidemiological data, clinical, laboratory and imaging presentation, conduct and outcome of the publications collected and the clinical case presented, identifying similarities and differences. An atypical clinical picture can be seen in peptic ulcer perforation in an excluded stomach after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, making the diagnosis challenging. Conclusion: The growing number of bariatric procedures implies an increase in the complications of these procedures, thus, physicians should be aware of the anatomical and physiological changes in these patients, which may imply an early diagnosis and better prognosis.
