Abstract

Introduction: For a career to be established and oficially regulated th ‑
rough a law or bill, it is required to go through four main sources of occu‑
pational regulation. The main one involves actions made by the National
Congress, consired to be the responsible authorship of a career´s laws
of operation and regulation. Without this, the occupation is unable to
state the profession´s workload and required skills.
Objective: This study analyzed law propositions between 2010 and
2016 in the House of Representatives and the Senate regarding the re‑
gulation of occupations in the health sector.
Methods: This was a qualitative‑quantitative exploratory study made
with secondary database informations available in the oficial websites of
the Congress complemented by informations found at Legislative Health
Observatory database.
Results: This study found that during the study period, 41 bills were in
progress regarding the regulation of 28 health professions, complying to
SUS´s integrity principles.
Conclusion: Concludes that for the sake of expanding health care, the
incorporation of new categories of health professionals is necessary in
means to assist the needs of diferent types of demands from the popu‑
lation, which is, the constant quest for an integral healthfield not only
of assistance but also in governance.
