Abstract

Introduction: The Kalunga community is the biggest quilombola
community in Brazil, still preserves ancestral habits because of
the difficulty of access. They live in precarious conditions of basic
sanitation, infrastructure, and low level of schooling and situation of
social vulnerability.
Objective: The aim of this article is report the use of Alcohol and other
Drugs in the Kalunga community of Cavalcante.
Methodology: These is a research of an applied and empirical nature.
Was very important a partnership with the State and municipal
governments and the Federal University of Goiás, creating a network.
Results: The results suggested that the drinking habit is associated
with men. Alcoholic drinks are present in the main moments of life
in Kalunga, from birth to the death. The parties that mark the passage
of time. Low education is related to smoking. They still preserving the
habit of smoking pipe and the use of snuff, called simonte.
Final considerations: The participation of the parties is part of the
cultural identity of the community, during five days, with ritualistic
practices. They are important spaces for health care actions and harm
reduction.
