The use of masks to reduce COVID-19 transmission

Objective: to present evidence about the use of masks by health professionals and the general population to protect against COVID-19. Method: It is an integrative review using 5 bibliographic bases, in addition to manual search. Results: Of the 630 publications identified, 32 were included. All masks (respirators, surgical and tissue masks) offer some protection against a COVID-19. Conclusion: additional measures are necessary, such as social and physical distance, respiratory etiquette and hand hygiene. Education actions aimed at the proper use and reuse of masks are mandatory, as well as the risks and precautions regarding self-infection.
