Abstract

Objective: To describe the superficial morphological alterations suffered by dental enamel after the microabrasion procedure using different agents. Methods: This work consists of a integrative review of literature. A bibliographic survey was carried out through an electronic search in the databases: National Center for Biotechnology Information (PubMed), Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde and Google Scholar using the descriptors in portuguese/english: ‘Microabrasão do esmalte/Enamel microabrasion’ and ‘Esmalte dentário/Dental enamel’. Results: Literature review, clinical trials, systematic reviews, experimental studies and case reports articles' were objects of exploratory analysis and, in total, 17 scientific productions were selected to compose this review. Final considerations: Factors such as the concentration of the acidic agent, the size and shape of the abrasive agent particles used during microabrasion caused alterations in enamel morphology, being, one of the most frequently mentioned in the literature, the increase in surface roughness.
