Training opportunities for Health Technology Assessment: mapping national and international courses

Abstract

Introduction: The incorporation of technologies in the Unified Health System (SUS) requires staff trained in health technology assessment tools (HTA). Knowing the current offer these training opportunities is important to fill any gaps in supply of skilled professionals in the health services.
Objective: Map the training and capacity building opportunities in health technology assessment available at national and international level.
Methods: Descriptive study, with secondary data, through searches in electronic sites of the Brazilian Network for Health Technology Assessment (Rebrats) and the International Network Agencies for Health Technology Assessment (INAHTA) occurred between March and April, 2016.
Results: During the study period were found 62 HTA courses. Universities, non‑governmental organizations and networks they offered 77,4% of the courses. Universities accounted 51% of the courses, in particular, training courses at masters level. Canadian institutions were highlights in offering short courses, representing 13 courses. Most long‑term courses were offered by Brazilian institutions, reaching 13
courses. For the 62 courses, there was emphasis on health professionals and few specific offers to decision makers and industry.

Conclusion: There was a panorama of offers and training initiatives in distance education that can promote the improvement of the qualification of health professionals in terms of valuation and critical incorporation of technologies in the SUS.
